Frequently Asked Questions
What is GCC High?
GCC High is one of Microsoft's most restrictive US government cloud environments, built for contractors in the defense supply chain and organizations handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) or ITAR-controlled data. It adds screening, personnel, and data-handling requirements beyond standard GCC.
What's the difference between GCC and GCC High?
GCC serves federal civilian agencies, state and local government, and higher education. GCC High serves organizations with CUI or ITAR obligations, mostly in the defense supply chain. See our full comparison for detail.
Is Altus available in a GCC High tenant?
Yes. Altus supports native GCC High authentication, Microsoft Graph Government APIs, and Dataverse Government environments, and deploys inside your GCC High tenant the same way it deploys in commercial Microsoft 365, with no separate infrastructure and no workaround. The one thing that changes is how you grant access: commercial Microsoft 365 and GCC use standard Microsoft Public Cloud Consent, while GCC High requires Microsoft's separate GCC-High Consent process, which Altus is already registered for.
Does Altus support the Microsoft DoD cloud?
Not yet. The Department of Defense's own cloud sits at a further, more restricted tier above GCC High, built for DoD's internal environment rather than its contractor base. Altus supports GCC and GCC High today. If DoD-tier support matters for your organization, talk to our team and we'll factor it into the roadmap.
Do we need a different Altus license for GCC or GCC High?
Talk to our team about how your existing Microsoft government licensing maps to Altus's Project, Portfolio, and Strategy tiers. You likely already have the underlying Power Platform components included.
Can Altus support different project scheduling tools?
Yes. Altus supports a mix of scheduling tools at the same time. Teams can continue working in Microsoft Project for complex schedules, Planner for lightweight work, or third-party tools like Jira. Altus consolidates this information in real time so portfolios can be managed centrally without forcing teams into a single tool.
Does Altus support benefits realisation?
Yes — the Strategy tier includes strategy and benefit realisation, including managing strategic themes, goals and benefits across the portfolio, with benefit-related reporting available (for example benefits breakdown and benefits overview).
